Manchester United: Is Giggs right?

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs stated publicly this week that he thinks the clubs should once more attempt to raid Arsenal this summer for the services of their superstar striker.

Manchester United signed Robin van Persie in a hugely acrimonious transfer from Arsene Wenger’s team in 2012. It not only won Manchester United the title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season at the club but underlined the ire of Arsenal supporters who felt that their beloved club had become less ambitious than the English elite.

But Giggs reckons Manchester United would be well served in making a move for Sanchez.

He is quoted by British media outlet Sky Sports as saying:

“He’s a brilliant player,”

“His work rate, the effect he has on his team-mates, a winner.

“Jose Mourinho bought Zlatan Ibrahimovic because he is a winner. He’d won everywhere he’d gone. Not only the effect on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

“You can just feel that Sanchez would give his team-mates a lift.

“When we bought Van Persie you’re buying a ready-made superstar and everyone was like ‘Van Persie scores 25 goals a season. What a brilliant buy’. And it gives not only the fans a lift, but the players.”

Sanchez has been on fire for Arsenal since his move to the Emirates in 2014 with 68 in 142 games. The season he has scored 26 goals in 48 games. And, more remarkably, he has spent much of his Gunners career playing in the wide areas.

Sanchez is undoubtedly one of the superstar players in the Premier league and would slot into any team in Europe effortlessly. Manchester United would be immediately improving their first XI if they did manage to prise him from Arsenal. He could play anywhere across the front line – as a number nine or in the wide areas – and he would make a huge difference United’s speed of play in the final third.

Manchester United fans – is there any chance of the club bringing Sanchez to Old Trafford this season or is it just a pipe dream?
