Arsenal’s latest signing?

There seems to be some mist surrounding Arsenal’s reported capture of Erik Tobias Sandberg.

The 16-year-old was apparently of interest to several big clubs in Europe, including Manchester United.

But various reports yesterday stated with confidence that Arsenal had beaten off the competition to win the race for the starlet.

The Sun said:

Arsenal see off interest from Manchester United to sign teen sensation Erik Tobias Sandberg

However, the fact remains that Arsenal have not confirmed or denied the reports and have certainly not made the deal official on their website.

The 16-year-old Lillestrom SK man was apparently offered a scholarship at the club which will become a full professional contract when he turns 17 in February next year.

A silky centre back with good passing range the report in The Sun states that this signing is part of a wider recruitment drive to bring the best young talent to The Emirates.

TFF believes that while this is always a worthwhile endeavour, the clock is once more ticking and Arsenal have still failed to bring any A-list talent to the club this summer.

Last summer Petr Cech was the only arrival and this year Arsenal have so far signed Granit Xhaka and Japanese forward Takuma Asano. While the former has a good chance of starting the season, despite serious competition for places in midfield, Asano is surely not the heavyweight forward acquisition that The Gunners require if they want to make a serious bid for the title this season.
