Sparkling: Manchester United’s best player vs Wigan

It was an inconspicuous 2-0 win for Jose Mourinho in his first game in charge of Manchester United.

But he got off to a win and Jose isn’t the only one who looks instantly at home in his new club.

Because both of the new boys on display for Manchester United stood out as the top performers of the day.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The has been a lot of talk about Zlatan turning up his collar and emulating the style and finesse of Eric Cantona since the Swede’s high profile move to Manchester United. But if the debut of Henrikh Mkhitaryan is anything to go by, we may be looking to the Armenian next season as the main catalyst for the team.

This is a player of true poise, composure and fantasy. He’s strong, quick and has a wonderful football brain. If he stays fit he may even give Wayne Rooney a run for his money at number 10 – the position Mkhitaryan occupied brilliantly on his Manchester United debut.

He was always incisive, created several excellent chances and was the main creative force before being substituted at half-time.

Eric Bailly

TFF had predicted that the 22-year-old may start the season at right-back while he gains the experience required for a crucial position in the centre of defence.

But the strength, speed into the tackle and composure he showed here would suggest that he will have no problems wherever he is deployed in the back four.

Bailly didn’t put a foot wrong all afternoon and also showed off some lovely ball control when under pressure. He is a very promising player indeed.
