Liverpool are said to have abandoned or at least suspended their attempts to sign Mohamed Salah and are instead looking at a winger from Portugal according to latest reports in the British media.

Highly respected British media outlet, The Guardian, reports:

Liverpool in talks with Sporting Lisbon over Martins deal as Salah bid stalls

The 22-year-old winger who was born in Cape Verde stands at 5’8″ and has played five times for Portugal since his debut in 2016. His debut came on the back of superb form for Sporting Lisbon where he has enjoyed a couple of breakthrough seasons.

He started his career at Futebol Benfica before moving to the youth team at Lisbon in 2010. He played a season in the Sporting Lisbon B Team before moving into the first team in 2015.

He has enjoyed two almost identical campaigns at Sporting Lisbon over the last two terms with 42 games and 43 games played respectively. He scored 7 goals in both seasons and is a player with genuine accuracy but who also provides a real goal threat himself.

There is a sense that he is only going to improve from here – especially if he can move to a club the size of Liverpool.

And if we may not see the best of him straightaway at Liverpool he could be a genuine A-list star of the future. Because he already has so much pace, guile and trickery that if he can add composure to his game he will surely be in double figures for goals every season. And he could become worth the entrance fee alone just to see his dribbling skills.
