Former England international goalkeeper Jack Butland has left Scottish giants Rangers for Championship side Hull City in a deal worth £3m.
The 33-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Tigers, with the option of a further year extension.
Butland has revived his career at Rangers
The veteran goalkeeper will have mixed feelings about leaving the Scottish giants this summer, as the move to Rangers in 2023 revived his career.
His move to the SPL saw him become a regular first-team starter again, making 155 appearances in all competitions for the Gers.
In the three years before the switch to the Glasgow giants, Butland had made just 17 appearances for Crystal Palace. He also failed to make an appearance on loan at Manchester United in the 2022/23 season.
The barren spell would have been difficult for Butland, as he was predicted to become a top goalkeeper of the future, and even England’s number one. However, he has made just nine appearances for the Three Lions, the last of which was back in 2018.
A successful spell at Rangers
Despite failing to win the SPL title with Rangers, his spell in the Scottish top-flight has to be regarded as successful. Not only did he become a crucial player once more, but he also won the Rangers Player of the Year award and the supporters’ equivalent in the 2023/24 season.
His performances raised hopes that Butland could still earn more caps with England. Unfortunately for the former Stoke star, the call-up never came, and the last time he was in a Three Lions squad was in June 2019, when Gareth Southgate selected him for a Nations League squad.

Ironically, Rangers have raided Butland’s new club Hull City to strengthen their goalkeeping options by signing Croatian stopper Ivor Pandur for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £7m.
The 26-year-old is relatively experienced, having played in Serie A with Verona and in the Eredivisie with Fortuna Sittard before joining the Tigers in 2024.
