Barcelona believe that this star is going to Manchester City

An interesting story in The Daily Mail which suggests that the highly sought after England central defender, John Stones, may be on his way to Manchester City this summer.

They say:

Barcelona turned down by John Stones with Spanish side believing England defender’s mind is set on joining Manchester City

The report suggests that the player has snubbed advances from Barcelona – how many players can say that – in favour of a move to Manchester City this summer.

With all the recent and intense transfer speculation linking French youngster Aymeric Laporte to Manchester City for the princely sum of around £39m you would imagine that City would be happy to stick there.

They have, after all, signed Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangle for over £70m in the last year. Add that to the talents of Vincent Kompany and you have a very highly paid roster of centre backs.

But Manchester City’s owners seem happy to throw money at a problem until it is solved and Stones would be a magnificent signing for the club.

He had a bit of a dodgy spell in the second half of last season and was criticised by some for overplaying in dangerous positions. But, at just 22, he should be allowed to make the odd mistake as he continues to learn his trade.

Stones has played 95 times for Everton already and scored the solitary goal. He’s been capped ten times by England in an already remarkable career and TFF would have him in the starting line up for EURO 2016 every day of every week.

He would be the perfect partner for the physically imposing Chris Smalling who has great pace but sometimes lacks a little finesse.

Stones has that in bucket loads of course and we have no doubt that he would be a sensation at City.
