Breakthrough? Target wants to ‘leave the club’ as agent confirms Chelsea interest

Koulibaly Napoli

Chelsea may have moved a step closer to another major signing as the agent of Kalidou Koulibaly has stated that the player wants to the leave the club, despite Napoli offering him a new deal. The Daily Mail writes:

Kalidou Koulibaly wants to leave Napoli despite contract talks, confirms star’s agent as Chelsea and Everton remain interested

..and quotes the agent as saying:

‘I was in Dimaro on Saturday and we discussed a contract renewal. However, we are not at the point of reaching an agreement. The desire of the player is to leave the club, not renew.

‘To the fans I say stay calm because he won’t be joining Juventus. Chelsea and Everton are still interested as they are both searching for a central defender of his quality.’

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has spent the summer strengthening the spine of his side with the signings of N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi and he looks keen to complete the set with another top centre back.

Chelsea are looking a little jaded in the centre of defence and Koulibaly could be a breath of fresh air.

The 25-year-old stands at a monstrous 6ft 5in and has decent feet for his height. But the obvious strengths are his aerial presence and command of the penalty area.

He moved to Napoli in 2014 from Racing Club Genk and has been a virtual ever-present in the side with over 80 games under his belt in the last two seasons in Serie A.

He looks tailor-made for the rigours of The Premier League but newly minted Everton could send the price rocketing it they retain an interest.

You would have too imagine that the lure of Chelsea and London would be attractive for a newcomer to the country.

Let’s see some of his better moments over the last campaign in Italy. Chelsea fans: a decent bet?
