‘Keen to buy me’ – Chelsea target lifts the lid on potential summer transfer to Premier League leaders

We may, of course, be completely wrong but Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is one of those players who seldom appears completely happy with his lot.

The ex-Chelsea man was the subject of intense transfer speculation in the summer but perhaps his price tag was prohibitively high.

Chelsea were regularly linked with the recapture of the powerhouse and the Belgian striker has lifted the lid on the speculation by suggesting that one club was particularly interested in his services.

He is quoted in The Daily Mail:

‘I’m not going to lie. There was a specific club in England who was really keen to buy me,’ Lukaku admitted to Sport/Voetbalmagazine.

‘But Everton’s new staff made me understand they didn’t want me to leave. What can you do when that happens?’

Some may suggest that public utterances like these imply that he is still angling for a move to a bigger club.

The 23-year-old Belgian international has scored 19 goals in 54 appearances for his country. At club level he has been similarly prolific and hit 68 goals in 141 games for Everton over the last few years.

But TFF has always had reservations about the player as an elite level footballer. He’s definitely got the power and the ability to shape games in the Premier League but does he have the finesse to be a leader of the line for a Champions League winner for example? We aren’t so sure. And with the figures being bandied around, regarding his value, you are expecting a player of that level.

Let’s have a look at some of his better moments for Chelsea and Everton.

Chelsea fans – would you like to see Lukaku back at the club or is he not quite good enough to fill the boots of someone like Diego Costa?
