Liverpool anticipate arrival of Danny Ings

There was a whole lot of bluster earlier this month when Manchester United agreed to sign Memphis Depay from PSV. The highly rated forward reportedly had his pick of a few clubs but, while Brendan Rodgers denied interest in the player, the PSV Technical Director said:

“Liverpool contacted us and talked with the player. They were also one of the clubs interested but at the end Memphis had the final decision and he chose Manchester United.

Of course it does nothing for group confidence to admit that you have lost out to a major rival but we can’t help thinking that Rodgers would surely have been interested in a player as talented and explosive as Memphis.

If he was indeed interested, then latest reports suggest that he could be about to gain a measure of revenge on Manchester United.

Because Liverpool are expected, according to The Times, to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings ahead of their rivals this summer:

Liverpool have opened contract talks with Jerome Sinclair, but are ready to let the highly-rated teenager go out on loan next season as they prepare for the anticipated arrival of Danny Ings.

Despite competition from several clubs, notably Manchester United and Real Sociedad, Liverpool are expected to sign Ings from Burnley when his contract expires next month, with the fee to be determined by tribunal if the clubs are unable to reach an agreement.

Ings has been excellent in a struggling Burnley side this season. While his 10 goals in 35 games haven’t been enough to keep his side up, it’s his all round game that has caught the eye.

He’s quick, technically good and a very inventive player whose football brain gives him an edge over many an opponent. He’s a very interesting footballer who, at 22, surely has a future with England as well as perhaps Liverpool. He has so far turned out 9 times for the England U21 side and scored an impressive 4 goals in that period.

Let’s take a look at the young man in action. Liverpool fans: would the signing of Ings get you excited?
