Liverpool have made a £9.5m bid for Polish midfielder, Piotr Zieliński, according to the highly regarded British media outlet, The Guardian. They write:
Liverpool have made a £9.5m bid for the Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski but face competition from Napoli for the Polish international.
The bid reportedly went in on Saturday but the deal is not a given due to Napoli also wanting the player and his club, Udinese, wanting £12m in fees for the young midfielder.
But Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, said of the deal on Sunday:
“Liverpool have made a bid for him and Zielinski wants to join them but we are trying to convince the player to join us, because we have an agreement with Udinese.”
Piotr Zielinski has made an excellent start to his career having already managed 13 caps and 3 goals for a very promising Poland side.
He went to Empoli on loan from Udinese for a couple of seasons and there he really made a mark with 66 games and 5 goals.
Liverpool have room for improvement in midfield. Although Lucas has enjoyed something of a renaissance this season he is still arguably not the long-term solution. Captain Jordan Henderson is just returning from injury and Joe Allen could be sold on.
Emre Can is a very promising player but has been used in a variety of positions and his ultimate resting place in the team is the subject of some debate.
As for Piotr Zielinski he wouldn’t be expected to walk straight into the team but would follow Marko Grujic and Joël Matip to the club as young players with great promise.
