Sky Sports reports today that Liverpool are in talks with Sevilla over the signing of their 20 million rated defender Mamadou Sakho.
Sakho has fallen out of favour under the management of Jurgen Klopp after some summer pranks seemingly went south in training sessions and he has hardly figured this season despite his obvious quality.
The Sky report suggests that Liverpool are holding out for £20 million for the France international who has played 28 times for his country, scoring twice, and is still only 26 years of age.
TFF thinks that this is a bit of a strange move considering that Liverpool have at times been underwhelming in defence this season. In fact they could really use the presence, power and pace of the Frenchman but perhaps it’s been decided that he doesn’t have the temperament for the club and will be moved on in this window if possible.
Sakho played 80 times for Liverpool and scored three goals in the space of a few seasons at the club.
Meanwhile the same source reports that another Liverpool squad man, Tiago Ilori, will complete his move to Reading today.
Ilori signed for Liverpool in 2013 but only played three times for the club and has been on loan at three different clubs over the last few years. He didn’t play many times at any of those loan clubs -Granada, Bordeaux and Aston Villa – but high-flying Reading have obviously seen fit to have a punt on a player who certainly has talent but has lacked consistency so far in his career.
