Confident of a deal: Liverpool have held talks to sign brilliant 25-year-old – report

The Newcastle Chronicle, a newspaper known to have its finger on the pulse with all things Newcastle United, has reported that Liverpool have held talks with the club about the possibility of signing Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

The report does state that Liverpool are yet to match Newcastle’s asking price which is aid to be in the region of £27m.

The report suggests that Wijnaldum is one of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s top transfer targets this summer and that the club are ‘confident’ of bringing the adaptable creator to the club in this transfer window.

Wijnaldum played 40 games for Newcastle in his first season at the club and scored 11 goals with 5 assists. He was not only Newcastle’s best player but one of the stand out performers in The Premier League last season with his pace and precision.

Wijnaldum played through the centre and on the wings for The Toon last term and his adaptability may be key for a Liverpool side which can already count on the creative talents of the newly signed Sadio Mane aswell as Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana.

Someone will have to miss out if Wijnaldum comes to the club but it’s going to be a furiously attacking line up for Jurgen Klopp’s men next season as they try to challenge the big boys of the modern Premier League era.

But TFF is of the opinion that this one will go ahead with the player open to a move and Newcastle realistic about the possibility of keeping the Dutch international in The Championship for at least a season under Rafa Benitez.
