Liverpool interested in signing another prodigious playmaker – report

Liverpool are said to be in a battle with Manchester United to sign the brilliant young playmaker Ruben Neves, according to reports in The British press.

The Sun says:

Manchester United and Liverpool to battle it out over Porto midfielder Ruben Neves

The 19-year-old midfielder, who made his debut for Portugal last year and now has two caps, has played 75 times for Porto since breaking through in 2014.

He has hit three goals and while his ratio may improve, he’s seen as much more of a supplier than a finisher.

The report suggests that Neves, who became the youngest player to captain Porto during one match last season, is poised to leave his club this summer and that he wants a move to The Premier League.

While Liverpool have the likes of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho ready to pull the strings for the club next term the engine room could still do with work – it needs someone coming from deep to feed the talented front line.

And, although somewhat inexperienced, Neves’ future as a top player looks almost assured. He is reportedly valued at around £13m.

Let’s see some of his highlights from his early career. Liverpool supporters: is this the right sort of addition to the squad and would Neves walk into the first team?
