Liverpool: Defender and Midfielder expected to leave and a strange valuation mooted – report

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will look to clear the decks this summer for some fresh talent and that will probably mean the end of Kolo Toure and Joao Teixeira, according to The Daily Mail, who state:

The 34-year-old (Toure) is out of contract at the end of this month and expected to be formally released tomorrow.

Liverpool are also expected to release 23-year-old midfielder Joao Teixeira.

Kolo Toure had a good second half of the season where his leadership qualities regularly came to the fore for Liverpool.

The report states that Liverpool considered offering the Ivorian a coaching role but that he wants to keep on playing and Monaco are reportedly showing some interest, having tightened their belts after their extravagant period a few years back.

The 23-year-old Teixeira has never forced his way into the first team with only a couple of league appearances to his name.

In other news, Liverpool fans may be in for a dull summer of transfer rumours relating to Philippe Coutinho. Sky Sports says:

Reports had claimed PSG had made a £23m for the Brazil playmaker, who is currently on international duty at the Copa America.

£23m for Coutinho? A player who ran the show for Brazil last night? Even if he only had a few months left on his contract he would be worth double that in a bidding war. This is one of the best young players in the world.

Even if his head is turned this summer we will most likely be talking about much more realistic valuations.

The player himself responded to the rumours in a perhaps disconcertingly non-committal fashion when he said:

“As far as I know, there’s no offer. I’m here with the national team, this subject is for my representatives.

“More important for me is to be here, focused on the national team and having a good tournament. That’s where my head is at.”
