Liverpool offer deal to pacy 20 cap international

Liverpool Crest

Liverpool surely need to add to their defence this summer and the centre back and left back berths are of particular concern in the squad right now to TFF.

So even though it might be something of a boring transfer window to Liverpool fans who want to see more attacking signings, defensive acquisitions should surely be the priority. And to that end latest reports in the British media today suggest that Liverpool have offered a contract to an experienced French international defender.

The Sun reports:

Liverpool offer Gael Clichy two-year deal as they look to land Manchester City left-back on a free transfer

The Frenchman who played 20 times for France between 2008 and 2013 has has been a solid, consistent and pacy performer in the Premier League – first for Arsenal and then at Manchester City.

Clichy played 264 games and scored two goals for Arsenal over eight seasons before moving to Manchester City. He has been quietly efficient over the space of six seasons at City and played 192 games scoring three goals.

At the age of 31 some might imagine that he hasn’t got much left in the tank. But this is a naturally athletic and quick player who has seldom suffered serious injury.

The veteran was released by Manchester City at the end of this season after his contract ran down and TFF thinks that he would be an excellent and solid addition to the squad in a left back position which is not particularly strong at Liverpool right now.

James Milner has filled in admirably but beyond that Alberto Moreno just hasn’t done the business at Liverpool so far.

Liverpool fans – would this be a decent addition to the squad or should you be looking for more youthful recruits over the summer?
