Liverpool sign another star

Liverpool have been first out of the traps in the summer market and who knows where it will all end.

They have decided to spread the Suarez money around the squad and have invested in the likes of Markovic, Lallana and Can. But they hadn’t spent any money on a defence which was arguably quite leaky last season – until now that is.

Dejan Lovren has become the first defender signed by Liverpool this summer – and the third Southampton player after Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

The Guardian says:

The Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, believes Dejan Lovren will fill a leadership void at Anfield after the Croatia international centre-back completed a £20m move from Southampton.

Lovren, 25, will bring speed and mobility to the defence as well as offering goal threat from set pieces.

Like the Lallana signing, it’s a lot of money to spend on a player who hasn’t done the business in the long term. But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been decisive in the market and clearly knows what he wants.

It will probably not be Liverpool’s last signing of the summer, as they could do with adding more bodies top. But it looks like the majority of their transfer business is now done and the squad looks really deep for their domestic and Champions League assault.
