Liverpool vs Manchester United are seldom the most free-flowing of games and, although Liverpool tried to get up a head of steam in this fiercely contested NW derby, Manchester United set out to contain their opponents and were sturdy in defence.

Oh dear. Had Manchester United been more ambitious they could haver forced the youngster into fatal errors. He looked very nervy and didn’t engender confidence. 4

Perhaps not quite the player that we thought he would become when he signed from Southampton but he’s quick and industrious. 6

Looks as if he can become a steady influence at the back for Liverpool. 7
Lovren
Has settled well after early wobbles at Anfield. 7
Milner
What a player he has become for Liverpool. Solid at the back and threatening going forward. 8
Can
Looked a little rusty but didn’t do his reputation any harm. 6
Henderson
Coming into his pomp. Played with great maturity. 7
Coutinho
Not his best game but still the most dangerous attacking player on the park before Lallana quickened proceedings. 6
Mané
He never quite clicked but his pace is ever frightening. 6
Sturridge
No service in his hour on the park, but didn’t create anything for himself either. 5
Firmino
Busy as ever but TFF couldn’t help thinking that he is better employed through the middle, constantly on the half-turn. 6

Was increasingly busy after a quiet first half and made two exceptional saves when called upon in the second half.8

Industrious as ever but perhaps lacks finesse with his final ball. 6
Bailly
What a find. He looks so much older than 22 and had no problems with the pressure cooker environment of Anfield. 8

Strong under pressure. 8

Largely solid at left back but one slip in the second half could have been fatal. 6
Herrera
Excellent in midfield. Industrious and technically good. 8

Worked very hard but essentially played in defence. Did nothing going forward. 6

Underperformed. Not much service but spurned the chances he did have with the ball. 5

Superb cross for Zlatan in the second half and worked hard. But didn’t justify the fee. 5
