Major bid for Chelsea target?

It appears to The Football Freak that much of the major transfer business is going to happen towards the end of this January window. Chelsea have yet to spend serious money but they have received a huge amount from the sale of Oscar and surely they will have a splurge before the month is out.

One of the more exciting players who been linked to Chelsea this month is the sensational playmaker Dmitri Payet.

Rumours of Chelsea interest have abounded this month and French side Marseille have also been credited with a serious interest. Indeed Sky Sports reports today that a second major bid has gone in for the player after the first one was rejected out of hand.

Sky Sports says:

Sky Sources understand that the second Marseille bid for Dimitri Payet was only £1million more than their first

The French club initially bid £19.1m for the West Ham midfielder, but only upped it to an offer in the region of £20m for their second.

Payet clearly isn’t happy at West Ham and there has been a strong suggestion that he is unwilling to pull the Hammers shirt back on. This has obviously alerted some elite clubs because Payet was one of the surprising stars of Euro 2016 and it appears there is very little that he can’t do on the football pitch.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has played 32 times for France and scored eight goals in a career which blossomed late. It appears that if Chelsea doesn’t make a move quickly they could well lose the player to the French giants.

Chelsea fans: should Antonio Conte be prioritising the signing of Payet this month?
