Report – Man Utd made £53million move to sign versatile player

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their back line by luring a top quality center half in the winter transfer window and a certain Serbian is on Mourinho’s wish-list.

According to La Nazione, the former Chelsea boss monitored Nikola Milenkovic in the contest between Serbia and Montenegro and after returning to England, he immediately asked the club to formulate an offer for the Fiorentina star.

The Italian outlet have reported that the Red Devils came up with an offer of 60 million euros to sign the defender in January but the move was rejected by the Serie A side. It is further mentioned that United are prepared to return and could make another move to secure his signature.

After eight league games this season, United’s goal difference is minus 1, they have already conceded 14 goals and Mourinho surely needs to sort things out at the back.

As far as the central defense is concerned, the Old Trafford club have got more than a few options with players like Smalling, Bailly, Jones, Rojo and Lindelof around. It must be remembered that United signed Bailly in 2016 and Lindelof last year, still, Mourinho does not seem happy with his back line.

Milenkovic was mainly a bench warmer for the Florence based club in the first half of the last campaign, however, he cemented his place in the starting XI after impressive displays in the second half of the season. He mostly played in the central defense but was also utilized in the right back position.

This season, it must be noted that so far, he has only played in the right back position for Fiorentina (8 league outings, 2 goals). For the national side, he has made 8 appearances for the senior team and only played in the central defense.
