We all know that the press can be reactionary to say the least.
But this one takes the biscuit.
Because after a substitute appearance for Manchester City at Barcelona on Wednesday, one British media outlet reckons that Sergio Aguero could be sold as part of the ongoing Pep revolution.
The Mirror states:
Manchester City legends Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany face the axe as Pep Guardiola’s revolution continues
Blues insiders feel star striker only on the bench for Barcelona loss will go in the summer, while skipper and centre-half was fit but not in the matchday squad
Aguero was left out of the starting line up in the Camp Nou on Wednesday as Pep tried to pack his midfield in the face of the best attack in world football.
But the Argentine has been on fire this season scoring 11 goals in just 9 games and most onlookers wouldn’t take long to answer the question ‘who is the best striker in The Premier League?’
It’s not only Augero’s goalscoring prowess which makes this story seem far-fetched. Aguero may not be the best at tracking back but, in general, he seems to be the sort of striker suited to Guardiola’s style.
He’s not a big target man but instead a constant whirr of pace and motion who can play anywhere across a front three. He is not dissimilar to the Barcelona strike force in this respect.
So we just can’t imagine this happening. Even if Pep decides that Aguero is not first choice, a club with the resources of Manchester City would surely want to keep him in the squad.
Manchester City fans: a load of nonsense?
