Manchester City linked with their best signing yet

Anyone who follows football regularly these days will know that transfer headlines are regularly generated by agents looking for better contracts for their players at their current clubs.

And with less than two years to go on the contract of Lionel Messi, this could well be the case.

Because over the last few days there has been a lot of speculation about the future of the football god.

The Manchester Evening News reports:

Lionel Messi is being linked with a sensational move to Manchester City … and that could spark the Blues into action next summer.

The Spanish daily newspaper Marca claims that the Argentina superstar has indicated he will not be renewing his deal with Barcelona when it expires in 18 months’ time.

There was of course the debacle over tax fraud which rumbles on interminably and this may have left a bad taste in the mouth of Messi.

And with so much money sloshing around The Premier League these days perhaps it’s not so outlandish to suggest that Messi could see out his final contract in England rather than Spain.

If he did come to England you would have to imagine that he would want to play for Pep at Manchester City. And while it may be a risk to move to such a tough league in the autumn of a career that is currently without any major black marks, Messi might fancy the chance to test himself in England.

If he succeeded in The Premier League it would surely cement his place as the greatest footballer of all time. But we have seen Zlatan huff and puff in England and it could go either way for Messi if he joined Manchester City at the age of 30.

But such a move would certainly generate even more excitement for the league and the English game. TFF would absolutely love to see him ply his trade for another team.

Manchester City fans: can you see it happening?
