Manchester City: Major bid mooted

When you look at the Manchester City squad you see quality bursting out at the seams. They have an embarrassment of riches in most areas of the club.

But, despite spending big money in the summer, the goalkeeping position still looks the most unsettled.

Pep Guardiola put all his faith Claudio Bravo in the summer and offloaded Joe Hart. But it’s a move that hasn’t paid great dividends. Indeed, many a Manchester City fan would swap them in a heartbeat.

You would imagine that the signing of another stopper would be close to the top of the Manchester City agenda for the next couple of windows and British media outlet, The Sun, reckons that City have a man lined up.

They say:

Manchester City target £20m goalkeeper Ederson Moraes and signal the end of Joe Hart’s hopes of a return

The report states that Manchester City wanted him in the summer but settled for Bravo when a move seemed improbable.

Moraes is a brilliant young keeper from Brazil. He’s got the sort of footwork that Guardiola puts so much stock in but is also solid with his hands and highly athletic.

He commands the area brilliantly for one so young and, while every young keeper tends to have a dip at times, this guy could be the long-term answer for Manchester City.

He’s played 16 times for Benfica since signing in 2015 and is steadily asserting himself in the team. He’s also represented Brazil U23s on five occasions and looks like the heir apparent for the senior side.

Let’s see some clips of him in action.

City fans: a safe bet or would you rather see Hart back?
