Meeting held: Manchester City open talks with £40m star

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could raid his old club, Bayern Munich, as he continues to strengthen and already sensational squad.

The Sun reports that Guardiola is keen on David Alaba and could make a move before long:

Manchester City transfer news: David Alaba lined up for £40m move as Pep Guardiola opens talks with Bayern Munich star

The 24-year-old Austria international has the remarkable record, for a defender, of having scored 11 goals in 50 games for his country,

He does also play in midfield at times but is generally regarded as a defender and usually plays at left back for Bayern Munich.

He moved to Bayern Munich in 2008 and has turned out 279 times and scored 22 goals for his club in a highly successful stint. But money talks in modern football and TFF imagines that if Manchester City want him they can probably make his current contract look like little more than minimum wage.

Manchester City have veteran full backs and these areas will surely be a main focus over the next few windows.

On the left, Gael Clichy is 32 in July and Aleksandar Kolarov is 31 in November. In the right side Bacary Sagna is 34 in February and Pablo Zabaleta is 32 in January.

So expect at least two new full backs to arrive over the next year and probably more.

Alaba fits the bill with his pace and power. As you can see from his record, he also knows where the goal is and is a towering presence in the air.

Manchester City fans: a worthy addition?
