Manchester City preparing official bid

In what could turn out to be one of the most hotly contested transfer moves of the summer, Manchester City are said to be preparing an official bid for the services of England centre back John Stones.

Everton have a top new manager a newfound investment, which may yet keep the 21-year-old at the club next season.

But The Express reports:

MANCHESTER CITY are preparing an official bid for John Stones with Everton ready to fight to keep Romelu Lukaku.

As many will remember, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho made a concerted and public effort to sign Stones last season, when The Portuguese was manager of Chelsea.

Stones had a few growing pains last season and lost his starting place in the England team as a consequence.

But he surely represents the future of England and would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United or Manchester City – United were linked with the player from the moment Mourinho come on board at Old Trafford.

But, in light of Manchester City’s failed pursuit of French youngster Aymeric Laporte, who signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao this summer, it makes perfect sense that Pep Guardiola should make a move for Stones.

City have lots of brawn in defence but they could use a ball player for balance and Stones has the quality to one day be regarded as of commensurate quality to Rio Ferdinand, who played so immaculately for club and country.

It’s difficult to know for sure whether Stones will agitate for a move this summer. But he did want the transfer last summer and there is every chance he will be in Manchester come the new season.

But TFF thinks that this could be the transfer saga of the summer in the north west of England.
