Manchester City have won the battle to sign highly-rated young winger Jeremy Monga. The youngster, who recently turned 17, has joined City from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £10m, plus add-ons.

Monga has signed a five-year deal with the Citizens, which will expire in 2031.

Manchester City were supposedly not the only club interested in the services of the highly-rated winger, as Premier League champions Arsenal were also believed to be interested in signing the youngster this summer.

Reportedly, the youngster held talks with the English champions and was keen to join the Gunners. However, Arsenal were not willing to meet Leicester’s valuation of the player.
With Mikel Arteta’s team out of the running, City swooped in and signed the talented youngster.
Monga a bright young talent
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young players in the English game. He first joined Leicester at the U-9 level and rapidly progressed through the youth ranks.
In fact, at just 15, he was playing for the Foxes U-21s in Premier League 2, where he became the youngest goalscorer at 15 years, three months, and 22 days when he scored against Aston Villa in November 2024.
His Premier League debut came soon afterwards, as in April 2025 he appeared for the Midlands team against Newcastle United in a 3-0 loss.
Monga made seven top-flight appearances for the Foxes and 27 Championship appearances in the 2025/26 season, scoring once and providing an assist.
The Citizens have given young players a chance
One of the reasons Monga stated for joining City was that young players have been given a chance to impress in the first team, such as Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly.
Whether Monga is given a chance at City in the 2026/27 season, or is loaned out, remains to be seen. However, the young winger could well prove to be a shrewd long-term signing, as he gains more experience in the senior game.
