Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola clearly still has the hunger to succeed in England and he has wasted no time in the transfer market this summer with the acquisition of Bernardo Silva from Monaco for a whopping £43.6 million.
That deal is just the start of Manchester City’s spending and most observers would be flabbergasted if they didn’t add another couple of names at least to the roster for next season.
To that end, Manchester City are now being linked with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy – another Monaco player.
British media outlet, The Independent, wrote this on Friday night:
Manchester City eye Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker to follow Bernardo Silva swoop
With veteran fullbacks Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna released after their contracts expired earlier in the week it is obvious that Manchester City will need to add some youth and reinvigorate their fullback areas.
Kyle Walker would be a sensational addition and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if the player ended up in Manchester by the end of the summer. He is lightning fast, powerful and athletic and loves to surge forward. Guardiola is famous for the his attacking sides and Walker fits the bill perfectly.
As for Mendy, he is a brilliant left back who never stops running and gets up and down the flank effortlessly. But perhaps the most valuable asset that he has in his armoury is that he possesses such a good delivery from that left-hand side. It was one of the highlights of Monaco’s season to see him sprinting down the left and pinging in beautiful crosses with that wand of a left foot.
Manchester City fans – are these the perfect solutions to fill the defensive gaps?
