Manchester United have seen the rise of Armenian winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan over the last month and it’s been a long time coming.
The 27-year-old has won two games in a week with fantastic goals to demonstrate his true ability at last. The injury sustained against Tottenham was a real choker considering his form but he will only be out for a couple of weeks.
And he is not the only player who has become undroppable over the last month.
Few observers of Manchester United will be surprised to hear that TFF has been incredibly impressed with Ander Herrera over the last few months.
While he has always been popular with the Old Trafford faithful because of his buccaneering style, he has definitely added another dimension to his game this season.
The Spaniard arrived at Manchester United with a very small frame and he seems to have bulked up to a degree over the last year which has really added depth to his game.
He always had great technique but over the last few months he’s really been getting stuck in. These sorts of complete performances started in the away game at Liverpool in the autumn and Herrera has since grown with every match.
This has not only forced Herrera into the first team over the last month but also given Jose Mourinho a reason to change his historically preferred 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-3-3 in recent weeks.
This not only allows Carrick to anchor the midfield but also gives Paul Pogba license to roam in his favourite position on the left of the midfield three.
At last the team appears to be coming together and Manchester United have genuine balance. The injury to Mkhitaryan shouldn’t change the formation too much over the next two weeks and we very much expect to see Herrera in the midfield for the big games.
He is definitely in with a shout of being player of the season for United if he continues in this vein.
Let’s see some of his better moments so far this season. Manchester United fans: best player of the campaign so far?
