Manchester United: Another winger linked with major move

Manchester United winger Ashely Young could be on the cusp of a move to the Chinese super league, according the latest reports in the British press.

The Daily Mirror states:

Ashley Young considering mega money China switch after falling out of favour at Manchester United

The former England international has played for his country 30 times and scored 7 goals. But he’s fallen out of favour at Manchester United with far fewer games over the last couple of seasons – particularly under the management of Jose Mourinho.

Previous Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal liked the player as a utility man and often used him as a winger in preference to £60m man Angel di Maria.

But, at 31, he has had to accept the odd cameo this season and while he rarely disappoints in terms of commitment and hard work, his days of skinning fullbacks at the top level appear to be coming to an end.

Young has played 150 times for Manchester United in all competitions in his five and a half years at the club. He started out as a right-footed left winger but was often used by Van Gaal as a full back or wing back.

He has impressed many with his temperament and professionalism. But his stint at the club has coincided with a transitional period after Manchester United’s most successful spell in their history. In the end, he won’t be remembered as an outright failure but perhaps a mediocre signing in a poor period of the Old Trafford giants.
