There have been a few times down the years when the transfer of a Manchester United superstar seems out of the question but then the reality slowly dawns and the seemingly irreplaceable player moves on.
It happened with David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy to name three.
And while Anthony Martial isn’t yet in that class, many to most Manchester United fans would be devastated if he did move on.
He hasn’t always been the first name on the team sheet over the last few months and rumours have been surfacing about interest from other clubs. But few took it seriously. Surely Manchester United wouldn’t be prepared to sell such a young asset who scored 17 and assisted 11 goals last season?
But the latest reports and quotes may suggest otherwise.
Because Sky Sports passes on these quotes which apparently came from the agent of the player:
Philippe Lamboley admitted the La Liga club offer an attractive option for his 21-year-old client.
“We are studying the Sevilla option in detail,” Lamboley told ABCdeSevilla.
“Sevilla are a very good club, are in a good position in La Liga, play in the Champions League and have a great coach. That’s all I can tell you.”
The report does state that it would be a temporary switch to begin with. But surely Martial is needed at United?
He hasn’t really had the chance to gain momentum this season as he has been in and out of the side.
But he is still easily in TFF’s strongest Manchester United XI and represents by far the best left-sided attacker that the club possesses.
United and Mourinho should surely be building a team around this guy.
Manchester United fans: is this a terrible idea or would a loan move give Martial vital minutes at a time when he doesn’t seem to have the full trust of his manager?
