Manchester United make approach for classy 22-year-old Frenchman

Manchester United’s summer business shows no sign of slowing and the latest on the radar is a 22-year-old French defender.

British media outlet, The Daily Mail, reports:

Man United make approach for £31m Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet

Much of the speculation pertaining to Manchester United defensive reinforcements of late has centred around the 29-year-old Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld, who said of his future this week:

“Tottenham decides about my future. Of course I have my own idea. But that is not the case now. The past season was tough. But I’m glad that I could play the last four matches. That means that I am ready for the World Cup.”

But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is a notoriously hard man to bargain with and the figures being mooted are astronomical for a 29-year-old defender.

It’s easy to imagine that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will look for other alternatives if he does look to strengthen the heart of his defence and find the perfect long-term partner for Eric Bailly.

Victor Lindelof doesn’t look like the man for the job but, even at 22, Lenglet has shown great composure in a highly consistent season for Sevilla in La Liga.

He was an ever present with 48 games under his belt for his club side in the last campaign. Overall he has played 67 times and scored 4 goals for the club since he arrived from French side Nancy in 2016.

His future looks assured and his ice-cold temperament and passing ability could make him an excellent compliment to the no nonsense defending of Bailly.

With a reported release clause of 31m GBP his price tag is eminently affordable for Manchester United if they do fancy him.

Manchester United are close to completing deals for Brazil midfielder Fred from Shaktar Donetsk and young fullback Diogo Dalot of Porto. But much more investment is expected in the coming weeks in what should be another summer of revolving doors at Manchester United.
