Manchester United look set to strengthen their midfield options with the signing of Atalanta’s Brazilian international Ederson.
Media reports suggest that the Red Devils have agreed a fee of around £35m, plus a potential £3m in add-ons. It is believed that the midfielder could complete the move to United by the end of the week.
Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid was also interested in signing the 26-year-old. However, it seems United have moved fast to secure the midfielder’s signature.
Ederson brought in to replace Casemiro

The midfielder is being brought in as a replacement for compatriot Casemiro, who is leaving the club this summer after the expiration of his contract.
Casemiro enjoyed a strong final season with United, scoring nine goals and producing two assists. However, calls from the fans for the midfielder to extend his stay in Manchester have been ignored.

Ederson has earned himself a reputation in Bergamo as an excellent box-to-box midfielder, although his stats this season can’t quite match Casemiro, having scored two goals and produced just one assist.
He will bring energy and drive to the centre of the park for the Red Devils. Despite his strong numbers last season, 34-year-old Casemiro is in the twilight of his playing career. Ederson seems to be an ideal replacement.
United still looking for central midfielders
The Red Devils are reportedly still looking to add more central midfielders to their squad this summer, as they prepare to return to the Champions League next season.
United are believed to still be interested in the likes of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba and West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes.
Fernandes has been linked with moves to several other clubs, including European champions PSG, Arsenal and Manchester City. Despite the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship, they are unlikely to reduce their reported £80m asking price for the youngster as they look for funds to rebuild in the English second tier.
Media reports suggest that Fernandes’ preferred destination is actually Manchester United.
