Manchester United fans braced for good news over superstar this week – report

Manchester United will find out if David de Gea will be resisting the advances of Real Madrid and staying at the club by Wednesday of next week according to a well-placed British media outlet.

The Times reports (via BBC):

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, 25, has until Wednesday to decide whether to join Real Madrid for £47m before a special exit clause in his contract expires.

As most will remember, it was only an administrative error/hold up that prevented De Gea being granted a move to Real Madrid on transfer deadline day last summer.

But he instead signed a new four year contract at the club which apparently had this year-long release clause.

Manchester United fans will already feel more confident than ever that the Spaniard will stay at the club after this week hailing the recruitment of Jose Mourinho for a second time since the Portuguese was installed as manager of the The Red Devils. De Gea said of Mourinho:

‘I arrived at United to win titles; it’s true that in the past two years we haven’t been at the level that this club deserves, but we hope that with the coaching change, we can return United to the top,’

So there is a sense that the player will be staying anyway but the passing of this deadline will set Manchester United minds at ease that De Gea will be at Manchester United for another year at the very least.

The 25-year-old is already clocking up the appearances for Manchester United after five full seasons at the club. He’s played 224 times for United and won The Premier League and an FA Cup in that time.
