Manchester United: Concrete interest in signing pacy South American

Manchester United have shown a concrete interest in the superb Brazilian full back Fabinho and he is the most likely to be signed by the club on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports.

They write:

“There has been concrete interest in the 22-year-old Brazilian defender who plays for Monaco, Fabinho. Manchester United have looked very seriously at him and it could be that it is the last day bit of business that United do.

Antonio Valencia has had a flying start to the season under new manager Jose Mourinho and that may influence the decision on whether to bring in another right back.

But the 22-year-old Monaco star is, quite frankly, in a different league to Valencia and United must be looking at the situation long-term.

Because, while Mourinho has reinforced the areas that he thinks are weakest, his second round of signings will surely include a right back.

That’s the area of the team that seems weakest right now and Matteo Darmian has done little to justify his price tag since he joined the club last year.

But perhaps the hope is that Antonio Valencia continues to show this sort of form while promising youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah gains experience and starts to stake a claim to a permanent starting role.

Fabinho has played 133 games for Monaco and scored 10 goals. At international level he has broken into the Brazil team since his debut last year and has since made 4 appearances.

He’d no doubt be a superb addition for Manchester United and a player who could do on the right what Luke Shaw does on the left.
