Manchester United to finally complete deal for 23-year-old?

It was one of the highest profile transfer rumours of the January window and reports have surfaced again this week that Manchester United will finally complete a deal for the 23-year-old Benfica centre back Victor Lindelof this summer.

The fee is reportedly going to be somewhere in the region of 35 million Euros and the player will move to Old Trafford on a long-term deal. Portuguese media outlet Record reports:

LINDELÖF NO UNITED POR 35 MILHÕES DE EUROS
Internacional sueco está de saída para Old Trafford naquele que será o segundo grande negócio das águias na última semana

LINDELÖF IN THE UNITED FOR 35 MILLION EUROS
Swedish international is leaving for Old Trafford in what will be the second big business of the eagles in the last week

This is certainly a deal that seems to make sense to TFF. Manchester United have a decent pool of centre backs with Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly plus the auxiliary services of Daley Blind. But with Bailly clearly the best player of the bunch he could use a ballplaying centre back next to him.

The Ivory Coast International is a rugged defender who does the nuts and bolts so brilliantly. But he could use an elegant ball player alongside him in the mould of Rio Ferdinand.

Lindelof is a hard man but also a very elegant footballer who can spot a pass short and long and starts attacks from the back.

He’d be an excellent long-term signing for Manchester United and this deal makes a lot of sense.
