Manchester United fans were treated to an excellent debut from their new signings at the weekend as Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan teamed up in a red shirt for the first time.
Bailly looked as if he had been at the club for years and Henrikh Mkhitaryan showed what a top performer he is. He was extremely economical and composed on the ball and cut through the opposition lines almost at will.
He played at number 10 in his first 45-minute outing which lead to questions about where he will start the season.
Mkhitaryan mainly played on the right wing last season – and to great effect with 21 goals and 15 assists – but he regularly played in the hole for Shaktar Donetsk and looked superb their on Saturday, albeit against lesser opposition.
And he was asked by Manchester United’s in-house TV channel, MUTV, where he would prefer to play, given the chance.
‘It doesn’t matter where I think the most important is to play to help the team win the games and that is main thing.’
The answer may not appease everyone but shows that this is a player who is simply desperate to impress.
TFF believes that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will start a as right winger for Manchester United in the coming season, with Wayne Rooney at number 10.
But Rooney is going to have to have a big start to his campaign because, with Mkhitaryan showing so much threat in the middle of the park against Wigan, Wazza’s place in the starting eleven can no longer be guaranteed – particularly as Jose Mourinho has stated that Rooney will play in attack this term.
