Manchester United: Jose Mourinho’s top transfer target is prolific

Manchester United have once again been linked with the signing of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann this week and it’s easy to see why.

The Manchester Evening News wrote that:

Reds boss Jose Mourinho is believed to have made the Frenchman his top target for next summer as he continues his Old Trafford rebuilding job.

Griezmann has blossomed from a tricky winger into an out-and-out goalscorer and his finishing ability seems to get more ruthless by the month.

He was ice-cold up top for France in the summer and he’s already hit 6 goals in 8 games for Atletico this season as his club has once again hit the ground running in La Liga.

The report states that Chelsea will also do battle for one the leading lights in the game but football magazine 90 Minutes this week claimed that Manchester United will look to take advantage of Griezmann’s friendship with France international colleague Paul Pogba to get the deal over the line next summer.

Manchester United have some wonderful attacking talent at their disposal with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. But Jose Mourinho tends to use a seasoned international up top in most of his successful teams and, at 35, he can’t expect Zlatan to be that man for too much longer.

However remarkable a player the Swede is, Manchester United will surely look to augment their attacking line over the next few windows and it looks as if a battle royal is about to take place for the services of the adaptable 25-year-old over the coming year.

There is of course no guarantee that Griezmann will want to leave the highly successful Atletico Madrid. But the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United would be able to offer more in wages to football’s new superstar striker.
