Manchester United linked to a 5th signing

With the Paul Pogba deal almost done, some media attention has turned this week to a potential 5th Manchester United signing of the summer.

The Daily Mail reports:

Manchester United will consider reviving interest in wily defender Joao Miranda should they lose Marcos Rojo or Daley Blind over the next month.

With Jose Mourinho so highly regarded for putting great defensive lines together, many onlookers fully expected Manchester United to sign an experienced central defender this summer.

The club paid £30m for Eric Bailly earlier this month but he is lacking in top level experience, with just one season in La Liga under his belt.

Miranda is a far more experienced player who, at 31 years of age (32 in September) has played 27 times for Brazil and 456 club games in the top leagues of Brazil, Spain and Italy.

But while his experience could well come in handy TFF believes that Jose is largely building for the long-term.

34-year-old Zlatan apart, Manchester United have signed players for the long-term this summer, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Paul Pogba all yet to see their best years.

Furthermore there is a feeling that Mourinho plans to try Phil Jones and Chris Smalling as his first choice, central defensive duo this summer. The England pair have always played well together when fit, but injuries have stymied their progress at the club – particularly in the case of the injury prone Jones.

Miranda moved to Inter from Atletico Madrid last season and played 32 games with 1 goal scored.
