Next Major Signing? Imperious A-lister in continued links to Manchester United

There is a definite sense of randomness about much of the transfer speculation pertaining to Manchester United and other big clubs in football as the media tries to cash in on the thirst of football fans for big signings.

But there also appears to be a trend which forms when there is real substance to a transfer link. The media starts writing about a particular name with more regularity and consistency when there is real weight to a story.

And TFF has noticed that, over the last few months the name of Antoine Griezmann has increasingly been linked with Manchester United.

And the story makes a lot of sense. This is an adaptable winger turned striker who, at 25, is at the very top of his game and seems to be on the scoresheet every week. He was the star of the show for France in the summer and has hit the ground running this season with 5 in 6 games for Atletico Madrid.

And although this is a great team which is challenging for top honours every year, it isn’t yet considered in the same league as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester United in terms of size or glamour. So, while such a transfer would never be simple, he may well have a price.

The latest media intervention, from The Independent, suggests that Griezmann’s recent change of agent could smooth the way for a transfer to Manchester United.

Manchester United news: Target Antoine Griezmann gives United fans transfer hope

The French star has ditched his agent, opting to represent himself, and also revealed that he turned down the chance to sign for Paris Saint Germain

Zlatan is currently leading the line brilliantly for Manchester United. But he will be 35 by the start of next season and Jose must already be thinking about the next step. The fact that Griezmann is just as devastating out wide as he is through the middle would suggest to us that Mourinho would be more than happy to play them both in the same team.

Griezmann would surely be a sensation at United. He has the same ruthless streak and explosive pace as Sergio Aguero and could be a focal point for Manchester United’s attack for years to come. United surely won’t be alone in their pursuit of the player but, as we saw with the signing of Paul Pogba in the summer, the Old Trafford club are now in a position where they can blow the rest out of the water when they really want a player.

We will keep abreast of this story with interest over the coming months.
