Manchester United linked with bizarre signing

British media outlet, The Daily Mail, suggests that Manchester United will augment their defence by re-signing another player that they let go for peanuts.

We all know about Paul Pogba coming back to Manchester United for crazy money after departing a couple of years prior. Now it could be the turn of defender Michael Keane to return to Old Trafford for 25m GBP. The Daily Mail says:

Manchester United set to re-sign Michael Keane in £25m deal… TWO years after selling him for just £2m

The 24-year-old, 6’3″ stopper hardly got a look in during his time at Manchester United. He showed great promise coming up through the ranks but only made one competitive appearance for the club before being sold in 2015.

But since he moved to Burnley he has become a man and a towering defender who scores goals as well.

In three seasons at the club he has amassed 108 and eight appearances and scored seven goals. But the big question is whether he is better than what Manchester United currently have. For 25 million GBP Manchester United would be making a big investments but we can’t see how he would be noticeably better than the current defenders in the squad. Keane wouldn’t even be guaranteed a place in the starting line up for our money.

He is a decent all-rounder. Good in the air and solid with his feet. Please not the fastest defender in the world and nor is he in the same sort of league as Rio Ferdinand with the ball. He wouldn’t let anyone down but nor would he be the driving force in a title winning side. So we can’t really see this one going ahead and TFF feels that Manchester United will look at other areas of their squad before buying another central defender this summer.

Manchester United fans – worth the money?
