The New Yaya Toure? Manchester United linked to EURO 2016 star

Manchester United have been linked with the slightly lesser known EURO 2016 midfielder Ozan Tufan.

The hardworking holding midfielder, who has been a steady influence for Turkey in France has been likened, by those with a penchant for hyperbole, to the great Yaya Toure.

The Chronicle suggests:

Black Cats in the hunt for ‘the new Yaya Toure’, say sources

Reports in his homeland claim Manchester United have been scouting the player over the past 12 months, whilst adding that Sunderland, Everton and Southampton have all now joined the chase for Tufan.

At 6ft Tufan doesn’t have the size of Toure but at just 21 perhaps there is still room for growth. And we would be careful with references to a player who TFF believes is in the top ten ever to play in The Premier League.

But Tufan is certainly not without virtue as a footballer.

He’s an extremely hard-working holding midfielder who can also operate at right midfield or right back.

He’s already represented Turkey 27 times since his debut in 2014 and played in the majority of Fenerbahce’s games since his move from Bursaspor in 2015.

He wouldn’t be expected to waltz straight into the Manchester United side but would perhaps be of interest due to his running power and adaptability.

All that said, we can’t see him as being close to the top of Jose Mourinho’s wanted list and believe that Manchester United have enough utility players already.

What they need now, and what we believe Jose will focus on (as well as perhaps another centre back) is to furnish the attacking areas of the side with some real A-list talent this summer.

Here are some of Tufan’s best moments in his young career.
