Manchester United: Louis van Gaal confirms that key trio are fit again

Manchester United fans need some good news at the moment and it came from coach Louis van Gaal on Friday.

Prior to his weekly press conference Van Gaal told Mancheter United’s in-house TV channel, MUTV, that Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling will all be fit to face Norwich at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

There are more or less three players who are trained this week, for a full week, so that’s not bad,”

“The players who have trained this week are Rooney, Herrera, Smalling and Young is also coming back I think, but we have to wait and see.”

Manchester United have really struggled over the last five games with three draws and two defeats in that period.

Although Wayne Rooney hasn’t been on top form himself his return will surely prove to be a fillip for a team in great need of the sort of invention that the England captain used to provide on such a regular basis.

Chris Smalling has arguably been Manchester United’s player of the season so far and he will provide solidity at the back once more.

And Spaniard Ander Herrera is also fit to resume playing after nearly a month out of action. He may well make the team for Saturday as he has the sort of creativity that has been sorely lacking in the centre of the park for Manchester United over the last few months.

If Louis van Gaal decided to be adventurous he could play Herrera alongside Michael Carrick or Morgan Schneiderlin in the midfield. Alternatively we could put him in the hole with Wayne Rooney at centre forward and Anthony Martial on the left.

You feel that anything less than a win for Manchester United will leave serious doubts about the immediate future of Louis van Gaal.
