Manchester United: 81 Cap Midfielder Transfer Talks Tomorrow

This one has moved pretty quickly and so much so that highly respected British media outlet, The Times, reports that Marouane Fellaini is set for transfer talks about a move to Arsenal tomorrow. They state:

Arsenal have made a surprise move to try to sign Marouane Fellaini and will hold talks with the midfielder tomorrow.

This will come as an unwelcome surprise to many Arsenal fans who have been born and bred on the beautiful game under Arsene Wenger for two whole decades.

And even though Manchester United won’t get a fee for a player whose contract expires this summer, many fans will be delighted that he will be bringing the curtain down on a very average United career during a five year nadir for the club.

The 30-year-old can be a handy weapon for scoring late goals but he will hardly leave Arsenal fans salivating with apprehension at his arrival and it will add scrutiny to the formative tenure of their new boss Unai Emery. If the move goes through it certainly won’t draw universal praise from Gunners fans.

Fellaini has played 81 times for Belgium and scored 16 goals – not a bad record but his skill levels are not high and it’s hard to see him being a great success at The Emirates.

Meanwhile Manchester United fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of swapping out the clumsy big man with the twinkle toed Fred – a box to box midfielder with great feet and guile who, at 25, looks ready to slot in for the next five years or so in the Manchester United engine room.

Fellaini joined Manchester United in 2013 for 27.5m when David Moyes ended up paying more than the original release clause of the big Belgian having bungled the transfer badly.
