Manchester United: Jose Mourinho wants rid of 22 cap international ahead of summer spend – report

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian could be the first player to depart the club in the new regime under Jose Mourinho, according to The Daily Mail:

Jose Mourinho is ‘pushing Juventus target Matteo Darmian to the exit door’ as new Manchester United boss begins clear-out

The talented 26-year-old Italian international started his Manchester United career in really promising fashion with a great pre-season tour. But he seemed to lose confidence with a few poor performances and never regained his place in the side in what was a really poor season and another example of Louis van Gaal not getting the best out of his players.

Darmian has played 22 times for Italy and made 39 appearances for Manchester United last season but many of them were off the bench.

He is a good defender and will be an excellent acquisition for some club but, if reports are to be believed, he could well be the first one out of the door to make room for an expected summer spending spree.

Eric Bailly signed for the club on Wednesday and Manchester United have huge competition for places in defence with Paddy McNair, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Antonio Valencia all on the first team books.

The right back does have talent and was selected for Italy’s final 23 man squad for EURO 2016 despite his troubles at Manchester United this season.
