Must Buy: Final piece of transfer jigsaw for Manchester United in January?

TFF has been saying it for a long time and perhaps Jose Mourinho will succeed where others have failed in bringing a truly world-class anchor man to Manchester United.

Michael Carrick arrived in 2006 and, since then, no one of that calibre has come in to the defensive midfield. So, at 35, Carrick is still completely vital to the team with his defending, passing and composure.

While he still looks fit, he needs a true successor.

Step froward William Carvalho. Linked with Manchester United regularly over the last 5 years, a deal has never been done and the player remains at Sporting Lisbon.

Perhaps the price tag slapped on his head has always deterred suitors. But he is a monster of a player and one who could take the mantle of Yaya Toure in the Premier League.

He’s almost unfairly big but has so much class in his head and legs. He’s one of the best one-touch players in Europe as well as covering ground, putting in saving tackles and shielding his defence superbly.

Manchester United need an athlete and a great passer in the anchor man role if Paul Pogba is to play to his potential over the next few years and TFF can’t see a better replacement for Carrick out there than the 29 cap Portugal international.

As recently as September Carvalho was linked to Manchester United and his compatriot Jose Mourinho must have had a serious look at him.

At 24 this is a player coming into his prime but with his best years ahead.

Let’s see the man in action.
