Manchester United: Defender Deal Agreed

Manchester United supporters may be saddened to hear reports that a promising young defender looks to be heading for the exit door.

Ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes, now at Sunderland, looks set to snap up Paddy McNair in a deal that will also include the transfer of Donald Love.

Sky Sports reports:

Sunderland have agreed a fee with Manchester United for defenders Paddy McNair and Donald Love, Sky sources say.

The report states that McNair will move on a four year deal for a fee of £5m which could rise to £7m. And Donald Love will cost around £1m.

McNair played 27 times for Manchester United in total and showed genuine promise as well as the inconsistency of youth. But he did look, at times, as if he could become a proper United defender.

The case of Love is harder to gauge from the outside. The 21-year-old only played a couple of times for the club and was loaned out to Wigan in 2015.

If the deal goes ahead it will continue a rich tradition of business between the clubs – albeit mainly in one direction – with the likes of Wes Brown, John O’ Shea, Kieran Richardson, Danny Simpson and David Bellion among the players to have moved between the clubs.

Let’s see McNair in action for Manchester United. Reds fans: a good deal or a mistake?
