Manchester United: Paul Pogba’s shirt number

The Daily Mail has reported today on the prospective shirt number of Paul Pogba, should he return to Manchester United as widely expected this summer.

The question they pose is:

Pogba is on the brink of becoming a United player… but what No will he wear?

And they quote bookmaker Betway who have started a book on which number the brilliant 23-year-old midfielder will wear if he re-joins the club that he left in 2012 for next to nothing.

When he was at Manchester United the first time around he wore the number 42 shirt. While Manchester United are yet to officially reveal their sqaud numbers for the new season, Tyler Blackett wore this jersey last time out. But we don’t expect a player of Pogba’s profile and marketing potential to be wearing such a high number this term.

He wore the number 10 shirt at Juventus but this is obviously a no-go shirt number with club captain Wayne Rooney the current incumbent.

Pogba is 9/4 to wear the number 15 jersey which he wears at international level with France.

But the shortest odds are for the number 6 shirt which has been vacant since Jonny Evans left the club last season. TFF feels that, unless a quick deal is done for Juan Mata to leave the club (he’s number 8) then the 6 is indeed the most likely number for a player who is expected to drive the Manchester United midfield for years to come.

Here are those odds in full. Manchester United supporters – which number do you think Pogba will wear next season?

6 4/5
15 9/4
10 6/1
42 16/1
Any other 3/1
