Manchester United are preparing a major new contract for their Spanish international midfielder Ander Herrera.
The Daily Mail reports:
Manchester United set to offer Ander Herrera new £120,000-a-week deal
The Spaniard started his Manchester United career in 2014 and looked like something of a luxury item. He was small and flitted in and out of games.
And while his stock has slowly risen at the club, it wasn’t until Jose Mourinho arrived that his Old Trafford career really took off.
Herrera has been moved into a deeper role in the midfield and he has developed physically to become a much more combative pass master for Manchester United.
He regularly sits in front of the the defence, makes important tackles and starts attacks with his excellent passing.
His value to the team was never more evident than in his contribution against Chelsea last weekend.
In one move Herrera broke up a Chelsea attack before hitting a wonderful, defence-splitting pass which found Marcus Rashford who put Manchester United 1-0 up.
Herrera has now played 113 games for Manchester United and scored 15 goals. He also finally forced his way into the Spain International set up last year with a debut against Italy. He has gone on to make two appearances so far.
With Jose Mourinho likely invest heavily again in his squad this summer Herrera could well become one of his trusted generals. At the age of 28 in August he will be one of the older players in this new vintage.
Manchester United fans: does Herrera have the quality to replace Michael Carrick or does the club need to go out and invest again this summer?
