Manchester United reportedly lodge £42.5m bid for Sergio Ramos

Ramos - In demand

Manchester United have been spending money like it’s going out of fashion over the last 18 months and their latest big money target appears to be Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid.

The 29 year old has won everything in the game and has amassed 128 caps for Spain during the most successful period in their history.

He has reportedly been unhappy about the contract offer made to him by Real Madrid and may be agitating for a move, although he hasn’t stated this intentions publicly as of yet.

The Irish Independent runs with the headline:

Manchester United make improved bid of £42.5m for Sergio Ramos

..and state that, according to Spanish media outlet AS, Manchester United quickly improved their first bid in an attempt to do a deal for the international defender.

Ramos has been at Real Madrid for a decade after signing from Sevilla in 2005 as a teenager. After years of success at the self-styled biggest club in the world, you would imagine that it would be a real wrench for the player to make a move to Manchester United.

But with each passing day the story seems to gather weight and credibility.

Ramos is a powerful athlete and a highly skilful and pacy technician who would surely be a success at the club. But to pay £42.5m for a 29 year old remains something of a gamble for Manchester United, who are desperate to once more get back to the top of the English game.

Here are some of his best moments for Real Madrid and Spain.
