It wouldn’t be a transfer window without Manchester United being linked to some big stars. But they have been strangely absent from many of the back pages of late.
What added spice to the story was the fact that it’s been an area of the United team which no one has really nailed down over the last five years.
Antonio Valencia has done a manful job of covering there but there remains a feeling that he is something of a stopgap before Manchester United move to fill the berth with a specialist.
And Coleman is just that. At 28 he’s a seasoned pro who ticks all the boxes of a United full back. He’s strong, athletic, quick and adventurous with a wicked cross when he gets to the byline and a penchant for scoring goals himself.
But he has responded to the rumours by saying that nothing has been discussed with him.
The Republic of Ireland international is quoted as saying:
‘It is that time of year. I haven’t heard about the story. I am preparing for a game on Wednesday and that is all I am concentrating on,’
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho seems very relaxed about the current situation and his squad is still very deep despite the sales of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin in January. He looks to be clearing the decks for the signing of another forward and midfielder in the summer. But TFF wouldn’t be completely surprised if a bid went in for this excellent player.
