Confirmed: Manchester United sign Ander Herrera

Louis van Gaal has kicked off his term as Manchester United manager by signing United’s long term target Ander Herrera.

The Atheltic Bilbao player was so desperate to join the club that he paid up his contract in order to force the move.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website the 24 year old aid he was delighted to join the club:

“Signing for Manchester United is a dream come true. I have played at Old Trafford for Athletic Club in the UEFA Europa League and it was one of the highlights of my career so far. I have joined United to do all I can to help the team reach the club’s objectives. Having arrived on Tuesday, I’m excited to now be living in Manchester and I can’t wait for my first game in United’s famous red shirt. I will never forget my time with Athletic Club and I’d like to thank the fans and staff for all their support and, above all, wish all my fantastic former team-mates all the best for the future.”

The player has reportedly signed a 4 year deal and one would imagine that he will go straight into the starting line up. Manchester United have suffered a dearth of midfield talent over the last few years and could only call on Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley before this signing.

Manchester United fans will hope that this is just the start of the summer transfer business. Herrera is a really exciting signing but more numbers are needed in midfield, out wide and in defence, as the club looks to return to pre-eminence after a shockingly bad season by their standards.

Manchester United fans: let’s have your thoughts on this one.
